Traditional Lead Valley Gutter Replacement

S&J Roofing are undertaking a lead valley gutter replacement. During our initial inspection, it became apparent that the property had been suffering from long-standing water ingress to the front elevation.

Our Head Surveyor, Mr Shellard, carried out a detailed assessment to identify the source of the problem. Following the survey, it was determined that the existing front valley gutter had reached the end of its serviceable life and required complete replacement.

To provide a robust and long-lasting solution, the valley gutter was replaced using traditional Code 6 leadwork, incorporating correctly positioned expansion joints to allow for the natural thermal movement of the lead throughout the seasons.

Particular attention was also given to the inner cover flashing. This was enlarged and adapted to improve the management of high volumes of rainwater, allowing water to discharge effectively through the valley and significantly reducing the risk of further water ingress.

The completed works provide the property with a durable, weather-resistant solution while retaining the traditional roofing methods and detailing appropriate to the building.

Everyone we dealt with at S&J was polite, courteous and helpful. We chose them because they were a long established local family business with a good track record offered a 25yr guarantee and they had done a good job on a neighbour house .
On our house they removed the existing tiles, battons very damaged felt liner. They installed a new breathable lining, new battons and we opted for new tiles.. we are very pleased with the outcome.

Prior to instructing a company to do my roof renewals, I obtained five quotes. These quotes were from reputable Bath specialist roofing companies, all with a minimum of 4.6 plus reviews. S&J Roofing were the last company I met with, by this time I had already instructed another company. I was so impressed after meeting with the Director of S&J, Lee Shellard, that I cancelled the other company I’d already instructed (forgoing my deposit.) Before starting the work Lee encouraged me to come into the Walcot Street shop, so I could see all the materials that would be used on my roof and check I was happy before the work commenced.
Throughout the project I could not have been happier with how the work was carried out. The S&J team were, polite, tidy on site, worked extremely hard even in the summer heatwave. They were always happy to answer questions and kept in constant communication regarding the work that had been done and completion timings. They completed the work on time and left the site immaculately tidy. I’m so grateful that I decided to instruct S&J and would not hesitate to recommend them. They are absolute professionals and a brilliant example of a specialist family-run company, who really care about the work they do and how they conduct their business. Not only were they responsive from the first contact but kept me in the loop on every aspect of the tricky historical roof.
Which they repaired, with like for like materials and even went above and beyond by going to a reclamation yard to get historical coping stones that had been broken by the previous roofers.
